HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GOOD-BYE

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "ANY CHRISTMAS OR NEW YEAR CREATION".

I've made a new year card, which is unusual for me, but I do have someone in mind for this card. I've used toppers from a freebie kit to make a quite simple card.

As most of you know, this will be the last challenge for Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge, as Hazel has decided to take a break. It's been an honour being part of this blog for so long, and I'm really going to miss it. Thank you to everyone who has supported the blog over the years!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "INCLUDE THE WORD MERRY".

I have made a simple card this week, using pretty backing paper and a "Merry Christmas" die cut.

We've decorated our house now so well in to the spirit! Just wish work was over but alas, it looks like I'll be doing six days this week!

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

CHRISTMAS ANGEL AND SAD NEWS

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "THINGS WITH WINGS".

I intended to use my cute penguin dies to make my card this week but as per usual, I couldn't find them, and, as per usual, I found a die I'd forgotten about. So the angel card was made! I used snowflake backing paper layered on gold mirri card and cut the sentiment from gold mirri too, simple but sophisticated.

Now for some sad news from our leader, Hazel:

Having run this Christmas challenge blog for twelve years, I've been thinking it's time for a break .... this isn't an easy or quick decision, but one that has been on my mind for some time and recent family situations and life in general has made me realise that this is the right decision. I've been through difficult times during those twelve years and have never missed a challenge. So the challenge on 31 December will be the last one.

I've been so grateful for all those who have been on the design team over the years, including, of course, the present ones - also for the many sponsors who were so generous. So many have shared their inspirational designs and so many wonderful crafters have entered the challenges to share theirs.

Of course I am saddened by this but I totally understand. Hazel has worked tirelessly to keep two excellent blogs going but it's time for her to have a rest! I do plan on carrying on cardmaking, I have to....I have to much stuff to use up!

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

HAPPY HEART AND SAD NEWS

Good morning! It's a new month which means it's new challenge time at Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge. The theme, as always, is "ANYTHING GOES". We simply require you to use some patterned paper or card. Time to use that stash!

I have made an anniversary card for my neighbours, who have just celebrated 52 years together. That is some achievement!

I used a sheet of patterned paper, cutting about seven scalloped heart shapes. These were then folded in half and I glued them back to back, creating a 3-d effect. The back is the same patterned paper layered onto red card, and I printed the sentiment on my PC.

Now, the sad news. Here is an announcement from our leader, Hazel:

Having run the Patterned Paper blog for eight years, I've been thinking it's time for a break .... this isn't an easy or quick decision, but one that has been on my mind for some time and recent family situations and life in general has made me realise that this is the right decision. I've been through difficult times during those eight years and have never missed a challenge. So the December challenge will be the last one,

I've been so grateful for all those who have been on the design team over the years, including, of course, the present ones.

GLITTERY PINK CHRISTMAS TREE

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "USE SOME GLITTER".

Well, I made a major booboo this week. I always struggle taking good photos of my cards so as my daughter had been bragging about how brilliant her new phone is, I thought I'd enlist her help, completely forgetting this card is for her. Oh well, she'd have forgotten by Christmas!

I diecut a piece of pink snowflake backing paper and layered it up on pink card, adding a sentiment Christmas tree cut from glittered card, I've embellised the card with glittered snowflakes, perfect for my sparkly (not so little) girl...she's 19 and still loves pink!

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

HAPPY 101ST BIRTHDAY

Good morning! It's a new month which means it's new challenge time at Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge. The theme, as always, is "ANYTHING GOES". We simply require you to use some patterned paper or card. Time to use that stash!

I had the great privilage of making a card for a gentleman who was 100 last year, and he's still with us! So I made him a card to celebrate his 101st birthday. I had to make the numbers and wording quite large as his eyesight is not so good. I cut numbers from a snippet of the backing paper I used and stamped "Happy Birthday" with the biggest stamp I have.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

PLAYING WITH INKS

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "MAKE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND".

I had a play with my distress inks to make my background. I made a little spray mixture and also used a dropper to make blobs of ink, which I then splayed out with a cocktail stick. I cut out some stars, adding Diamond Dust to the top layer of these. Love how this card turned out.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

SWIRLY CHRISTMAS TREE

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "INCLUDE A FLOWER".

I actually had a full day off work yesterday and it was really lovely! I spent time with my daughter ( she's mad as a box of frogs but I love her so much)....and I caught up with my card-making. Perfect.

I had to drag my old Cricut machine out this week so while it was all set up I cut a few different shapes, this swirly tree was one of them. I've teamed it up with holly print backing paper and a beautiful poinsetia flower.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

THE NIGHTMARE CHRISTMAS STOCKING

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "INCLUDE A STOCKING".

Well, I had a right game this week. For once, I knew exactly what card I wanted to make, with a beautiful, intricate stocking die, so I set about making it. Got my Big Shot out of my cupboard and looking through my file of Christmas dies...I'm not the most organised of people but I knew it was there somewhere. IT WASN'T! I searched everywhere and it was nowhere to be seen. So plan B, I handcut a stocking from red and white card, adding faux snow to the white bits. I cut a strip of snowlake backing paper and put the card together, embellishing with wooden snowflakes. It's okay but not as pretty as the die. I put all my things away, looked at my table and there it was. My missing die had been hiding under my Big Shot!

To make matters worse, when I tried to do my blog post, my PC decided it wasn't going to play. Got it sorted now (damn Windows updates!)....and here we are. Better late than never.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

Every year, I make a card for my very special neighbours, using one of my colourings from Kit and Clowder classes. I dread letting my colourings go, but I know this will be in safe hands...my neighbour keeps them all!

I missed you all last week. Work is a nightmare at the moment, and no signs of getting any better for a while. Since when did part time turn into 40 hour+ weeks?! Good job I love my job!

Anyway, I had a little time spare to make my card this week. I've used an embossing folder and an icicle die cut  to make this card. The backing paper is from a wad of Christmas papers I found whilst I was looking for something else, as you do! I've added a cute little penguin which I think is fromWhimsy stamps, coloured in with Copics. Cheeky little chap!

I had a little rummage through my papers today, and came across a collection I'd forgotten about, as you do. I love this collection of papers, gardening themed so ideal for a special gardening friend. I have used a Kraft card base and cut four rectangles from the papers. I used a black fine liner to add faux stitching and completed the card with a wooden frame featuring the "Thank you" stamped sentiment.

I had a minor disaster this week....my Big Shot, which has been my faithful friend for many a year, finally gave up the ghost! So I was a bit stuck for die cuts to make my card this week. I found a pre-cut frame in my cupboard so thought I'd use that. I stamped a pretty snowy tree image and sentiment onto black card and heat embossed these with white powder. I then stuck on the die cut frame, and added a few snowflake punchies. The black card was then ounted onto a white base card. Quite classy!

And I've treated myself to a new Big Shot, which should arrive soon!

SILENT NIGHT

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "INSPIRED BY A CHRISTMAS SONG OR A CAROL".

I have used a piece of backing paper from a freebie magazine kit which I found whilst looking for something else. I traditionally use a specific paper set for this theme as that was what I used for one of the first cards I made for Hazel's challenge, many moons ago, and I won! Anyway, breaking with tradition this time, as I love this paper. I used a couple of dies and some snowflake ribbon (had a good rummage in my ribbon box....so much lovliness, I need to use them more often!), and finished of with "Silent Night" sentiment die cut.

Looking forward to seeing you makes.

FAIRIES AND ROSES

Good morning!
It's a new month so it's new challenge time at Crafty Hazelnut's Patterned Paper Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge but you must use some patterned paper or card. Time to use up your stash!

I have used papers and toppers from a freebie magazine kit to make my card today. Fairies and roses, perfect for my niece!

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

PEAS ON EARTH

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "SOMETHING FUNNY".

For my card this week, I printed out a simplified picture of the earth used the "holes" from the background die cut to make the peas!.

Looking forward to seeing you makes.

SNOWY DAYS

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "NO PATTERNED PAPER".

I have used a  little snowy scene stamp, stamping onto backing aper with Versamark ink, and heat embossing with white powder, doing the same with the sentiment stamp. This was then matted and layered on to a white base card. Love the simplicity of this one.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

FATHER CHRISTMAS HAS A TREE TOO!

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "FATHER CHRISTMAS".

I have used a topper and backing paper from a freebie magazine kit to make my card today. I do love this Santa, love the tree more as it reminds me of the one we had when I was a child.

Looking forward to seeing your makes.

SHABBY ANGEL

Hello bloggers! It's Saturday so it's time for a new challenge at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge . As always, it's an "ANYTHING GOES" challenge as long as it's Christmas related, with the optional theme this week of "VINTAGE OR SHABBY CHIC".

I've made an attempt at shabby chic. The card I actually wanted to make fell by the wayside as I needed my printer. Obviously my printer ran out of ink, no problem, I had new cartridges, but then I very stupidly pulled the chip off the cartridge! What a waste! So this was a quick thinking card. I had a rummage through my ribbons and lace and found this pompom trim and the snowflake ribbon. I put this together with a couple of stamps, stamped in Versamark ink and embossed with white powder. Finished the card off with a wooden snowflake and twill bow. I hope it's shabby enough!

Looking forward to seeing your makes.
